Laura Linney's performance of weak and yet powerful characters has helped make her one of the top American actors. She was raised by an unmarried single mother who was a nurse. Her interest with theatre in summers spent with her father, who was famous. Her studies in acting were through Brown University, and later at Juilliard School. Starting her acting career on the Broadway shortly after her graduation, she debuted in films within two years and on television within a year. In the years since, she's been in many films, TV shows and stage performances. Throughout her professional career, she's received many awards, which includes the two Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. The actress has received nominations for five Tony Awards, and three Oscar Awards nominations. But, in spite of her distinctions and awards, theatre is still her passion and she will continue to act on both screen and stage.
